1. How am I going to pay for my
new bike?
Will paying cash get me the best deal? Be aware
that the price of the motorcycle is not the only cost involved. Take into
consideration your comprehensive insurance, safety gear, possibly even an
extended warranty program and using your own money may not be the best
solution. You may be able to get a better deal by using in store finance. |

2. What is a L.A.M.S approved
motorcycle?
L.A.M.S approved motorcycles have an engine
capacity up to & including 660cc and do not exceed a power to weight ratio
of 150 kilowatts per tonne. A full list of approved motorcycles can be
obtained here

3. Where am I buying from?
If buying a new motorcycle make sure that the
dealer you are purchasing from will be able to look after you with
servicing & support for the life of the motorcycle. If buying used,
remember that purchasing from a licensed dealer gives you guaranteed title
of ownership and often a dealer must supply a statutory warranty on used
vehicles.

4. What riding am I going to
do?
Even before starting to look at different
motorcycles that are available have a think about what kind of riding you
wish to do. Are you going to commute, ride long distances, on the dirt or
cruising with your friends? Having a motorcycle that suits your needs
should be the most important factor when deciding on your purchase. Talk
to experienced people to help you with advice to make on making this
decision. |

|
5. Do I fit on the motorcycle?
Sit on all the motorcycles that are going to suit
your style of riding and if possible test ride the any you are seriously
considering. The motorcycle you are most comfortable on is the one that
you will get the most enjoyment from.

6. How long will I have the
motorcycle for?
If you are under 25 years of age you will need to
be on your Learners licence for a minimum of 3 months, on your P1 licence
for a minimum of 12 months and your P2 Licence for a minimum of 24 months.
If you are over 25 years old you may be exempt from the P2 phase of your
licence. This means a fair amount of time on a L.A.M.S approved motorcycle
so you need to think if the motorcycle you choose will be suitable for
that period and if it will be good value for money for you. Often a more
expensive motorcycle can end up costing you less over time due to lower
maintenance and operating costs.

7. What do I do when it’s time
to upgrade?
When it is time for you to upgrade to either a
different L.A.M.S motorcycle or onto a larger motorcycle for your
un-restricted licence you have a few options. You can sell your motorcycle
privately; sell to a dealer or trade in with a dealer onto a new or
different second hand bike. Trading in is often the best option as you are
able to negotiate the best deal and it saves you the potential hassles of
selling your motorcycle.
