STATE OF THE ART ENGINE DESIGN

Oversquare Design

The 599cc engine is oversquare, which means that it has a larger bore and a shorter stroke, producing a race-proven bore/stroke ratio which contributes to better efficiency and allows higher rpm.

SRAD

The engine is liquid-cooled with Suzuki Ram-Air Direct (SRAD) induction and a digital engine management system. Double Overhead Camshafts (DOHC) are driven by a link-plate chain off a forged crankshaft and open four titanium valves per cylinder through bucket tappets, with shim-under-bucket lash adjustment.

Transmission

The crankcases carry a six-speed close-ratio transmission with vertically staggered shafts, to reduce overall engine length, and a back-torque-limiting clutch.

SHOWA BIG PISTON FORK

The race-developed Big-Piston-Fork (BPF) design by SHOWA eliminates the separate internal cartridge assembly inserted into each fork leg and instead uses a single, 37.6 mm piston riding against the inside wall of the 41 mm inner fork tube. The larger BPF piston and valving shims produce more effective, more accurate and more linear damping performance. The more controlled compression damping is especially noticeable during hard braking and at corner entry, delivering better feedback to the rider.

BREMBO MONOBLOC CALIPERS

Twin lightweight, radial-mounted four-piston Brembo monobloc calipers with full-floating 310mm discs provide class-leading braking performance and exceptional handling. The 32mm caliper pads are staggered to promote even pad wear, the trailing pistons offset relative to the pad centre line.

The front brake master cylinder uses a 17.46 mm radial-mount piston. The front brake lever is also adjustable with 6 positions available to suit rider preferences.

ELECTRONICS

Suzuki Drive Mode Selector
The S-DMS system allows the rider to select an engine map to suit various riding conditions and personal preference on the road, for example choosing one map for highway cruising and the other map for twisty country roads or the racetrack.

ENGINE

Piston Design
Making use of fatigue analysis technology used for developing MotoGP racing engines, the piston design realises large weight reduction while further optimising strength and maintaining durability. The pistons are very light compared to those on other makes, and the resulting reduction in mechanical losses contributes to further enhancing the power output characteristics.

ERCONOMICS

Adjustable Footrests
3-way adjustable footpegs, adjustable shift lever, and short fuel tank help compose a comfortable riding position.

HANDLING

Electronic Steering Damper
An electronically controlled steering damper contributes to handling stability and a more agile feel by increasing the damping force at higher speeds and reducing the damping force at slower speeds

REAR SUSPENSION

Fully Adjustable Rear Shock
The single Showa rear shock features externally adjustable rebound and compression (high and low) damping, along with adjustable ride height.

INSTRUMENTATION

Simple Yet Effective Design
The centrepiece of the instrument cluster is an analogue tachometer, with an adjacent LCD panel offering digital speedometer, odometer, dual trip meter, reserve trip meter, clock, coolant temperature/oil-pressure indicator, lap timer/stopwatch, S-DMS indicator and gear position indicator displays.
